Behringer VD-1 Vintage Distortion Pedal review
Below is a test of the Behringer Vintage Distortion – The VD-1.
I really like this cheapo pedal, it looks like a brick and sounds like a ton of bricks.
If you’re looking for a cool budget distortion then this in my humble opinion is it.
It’s very light when handled.
Bit of blurb below,
Behringer Vintage Distortion
Vintage Distortion at your feet—from screaming loud to whisper soft!
Here’s an authentic, classic distortion effect—the warm and emotive tone that has ruled rock for the last 30 years. With the dedicated Sustain control, your guitar will learn how to scream! You get a status LED for effect On/Off and battery check, and there is a true hard-wire bypass for ultimate in signal integrity. The VD1 runs on a 9 V battery or a DC power supply (not included).
The VD1 Vintage Distortion is an excellent and affordable alternative to the Electro Harmonix big muff, providing a meaty, dirty fuzz like in the good old days. Versatile, dirty and great value-for-money!

Guitar Accessories Under £100: Effects and Recording
Finding the ideal gift for the guitarist is a tricky thing to do for someone not entirely sure what they’re looking for or at.
Sometimes just listening to the blah blah blah of your average guitarist as he/she talks about about that new fangled gadget or wotsamacallit can lead you nowhere.
Anyway here are a few of my favourite gadgets that came on to the market this year.
A lot are computer based, ie USB interfaces – they allow guitar to be recorded and also have the added bonus of using laptop or desktop as an effects processor.

Guitar Primer: Understanding TAB and Chords
The past week has been a busy one in the background of this site.
I’ve decided to completely overhaul the site’s look, feel and navigation.
I’ve also decided to involve another topic of interest, that being learning guitar.
The guitar lessons that are offered for free on this site are just that.
You can donate if you want and to but that aside these lessons are free to everyone.
This online tuition veers in difficulty from absolute beginner to intermediate.
A primer to understanding TAB and Chord Boxes can be found here
A Chordbook can be found here.
And Scales can be found here.
There’s also a host of other Guitar related information:
Backing Tracks – Jam tracks for guitar solo and lead guitar.
Free VST Guitar Plugins – Amp simulation and guitar effects.
Mcompressor free vst plugin
MeldaProduction have kindly offered this free vst compressor plugin that also has sidechaining capabilities.
‘MCompressor provides standard compression with volume maximization and has adjustable compression shape, which gives you power to set custom smoothing or even interesting sound effects.’
* Standard and custom compression shape – using user shapes you can easily create various dynamic effects such as expansion, gate or even some extraordinary shapes for rhytmization…
* Actual source level indication inside the shape graph – you always know, what dynamic value you can actually expect on the input and output, and what gain-reduction MCompressor performs.
* Signal maximization – compressors actually lower the signal above treshold. MCompressor can compensate the reduction to ensure, that if the source has reached 0dB, result will too. This is especially useful for mastering, since you want to maximize loudness and use the entire bit resolution.
* Hard, linear and smooth knee with adjustable size
* Side-chain based on band-passing the original signal (useful for de-essing for example).
* Standard general parameters – input gain, attack and release…
* Fully automatable (except for the custom shape graph).
* Global preset management – using a title button you can save your settings, which are shared on the computer, so you can easily access them in another songs.
